About Us

Our school assembly

We are a small country college with an enrolment of 260. We are a P12 community so our students are aged between 5 and 18 years old. There is something really special about our P12 School. The students all know each other; they mix inside and outside classes and the college has quite a family feel about it. It is quite gorgeous to see the “big kids” lined up with the “little kids” at the canteen, or the different ages mixing outside in the yard. Looking out the window and seeing half a dozen preps chatting merrily to the year 12’s, is quite the norm at our college.

Our college is in a small country town called Hawkesdale, and we are conveniently situation in the Great South West of Victoria. Our community is in close proximity to the beautiful Great Ocean Road and all its natural attractions and in reasonable proximity to the beautiful Grampians National Park, to the north. Over winter weekends our students are involved in local netball and football competitions, hockey, horse riding, golf and other sporting pursuits. In the summer months they amuse themselves with cricket, tennis, swimming and lots and lots of barbeques.

The majority of our families come off farms. We have a mix of beef, sheep and dairy farms in our community. In the actual township of Hawkesdale, we have a Post office, rural hardware store a hotel and of course, the College. The community members have to travel to Hamilton, Koroit, Port Fairy or Warrnambool, to do their weekly grocery shopping or business. Buying enough groceries to keep you going for at least a week, is quite the norm. Some families live in town and travel into the bigger centres to work. The majority of our students travel to school on buses. The students travel from small towns and outlying areas – Macarthur, Penshurst, Woolsthorpe, Warrnambool and Koroit. Our school motto is “Opening Doors to the Future” and we believe we certainly do that.

Many of our students begin their school lives here in prep and finish up 13 years later, in year 12. At the year 12 Graduation evening, the audience is made up of parents, students, family members and staff who may have taught those graduates way back in prep.

Welcome to our elearning journey at Hawkesdale P12 College – a country college with a country heart. A school that opens doors to the future and to the globe.
